L.A. Kitchen

Reducing food waste, creating jobs, and providing healthy meals to seniors

BlueChip Foundation volunteers at LA Kitchen event.

What They Do

L.A. Kitchen is a sustainable social enterprise organization dedicated to eradicating poverty and advancing the health and well-being of low-income seniors within the Los Angeles Community. The enterprise operates a training kitchen that reclaims healthy food, facilitates training and future employment opportunities, and provides healthy dishes for seniors.
The kitchen provides recently released inmates and former foster care youth with apprenticeship opportunities in the culinary arts for eventual job placement.
Sourcing healthy fruits and vegetables that are either cosmetically imperfect or unsold from farmers markets or food wholesalers, L.A. Kitchen is able to reconstitute perfectly good food and reduce food waste.
Founded by Robert Egger, a social enterprise visionary and founder of DC Central Kitchen in Washington, L.A. Kitchen strengthens the community with multiple sustainable partnerships that facilitate the evolution of students into culinary professionals and reclaimed food into healthy and profitable dishes.
The organization is responsible for a virtuous cycle that saves the state and taxpayers from additional costs while producing cheaper, healthier meals for distribution to the hungry and indigent.
Blue Chip Foundation, one of the first donors to L.A. Kitchen, is committed to the ongoing support of Robert Egger’s holistic sustainable development initiatives.
