Sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, halt biodiversity loss
Forests provide food and shelter for the entire planet. Sustainable forest management, conservation of terrestrial ecosystems, natural resources management, and protection of biodiversity are necessary for reversing the human footprint. Reversing desertification and combating the degradation of lands depends on conservation efforts and policies that establish protected lands, spark replanting initiatives, and expand forest areas. Human activities and climate change threaten the terrestrial environment. Sustainable development of wetlands, drylands, mountains and inland freshwater habitats will result in a degradation-neutral planet.

Humans share basic needs including breathing air, drinking water, and consuming food. Each of these life essential activities depends on the healthy existence of forests. Additionally, humans turn to the forest for spiritual fulfillment and religious practices. Land degradation threatens the livelihood of 1.6 billion people that depend on the rich biodiversity and protection provided by the forest. Additionally, forests are responsible for maintaining healthy soils, production of plant extracts for medicine production, and healthy ecosystems that strengthen the health and well-being of individuals.
