Wildlife conservation, sustainable development at UN-backed conference
Focusing on wildlife conservation for sustainable development, Brandee Chambers, Executive Secretary of theConvention on Migratory Species( CMS ) addressed delegates from over 120 countries in the Philippines saying, “Development without a regard for the environment is not sustainable. Their future is our future.” This year’s event is dedicated to wildlife and is the largest of its kind since its adoption in 1979. The theme of “Their Future is Our Future – Sustainable Development for Wildlife & People” illustrates the connection with othersustainable development goalsaligned with alleviating poverty and hunger, preserving oceans and forests, and improving health and education.
