FAO: Join global treaty to root out the scourge of illegal fishing

The Conference of the  Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) introduced the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA), a new global treaty that calls for all countries to join the fight against illegal fishing. FAO has set aside funding dedicated to supporting poorer countries in developing technical, scientific, and legal frameworks to support successful outcomes from the initiative. Other programs supported by the FAO such as Blue Growth provide additional funding to help small island states achieve ecological sustainability.
