UN and partners launch initiative to reach equal pay for women at work
The United Nations labor agency and Organization’s entity promotion of women’s rights launched a new coalition to secure women’s rights. According to Guy Ryder, the Director-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), “equal pay for work of equal value” is essential. Earnings for women remain 17 percent below men’s rates, according to data provided by the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development(OECD). Women who earn equal pay can look after their families and invest in their children’s education and health. Equal pay for women leads to inclusive societies with job opportunities that help reduce poverty.
