UN envoy Forest Whitaker honored for work in peacebuilding
Forest Whitaker, actor and United Nations agency special envoy, received the 2017 Crystal Award in Davos, Switzerland. The actor was quoted as saying, “People themselves have to push forward…they need to have empowerment to know that they actually can make a difference and make a change.” He is responsible for actively working to achieve peace through his International Institute for Peace(IIP) founded in 2011 and the Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative founded in 2012. Both projects are established with the aim of reducing conflict and providing opportunities to young women and men in Mexico, South Sudan, and Uganda.
