Young students getting better at reading, finds international study

Reading literacy rates have surpassed international benchmarks across the globe. An international study from UN Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) reported that, “an early start in reading literacy has lasting benefits, with students who had attended pre-primary school for three years or more reporting higher average scores.” The progress is credited to home environments in which children are encouraged to participate in early literacy activities. The 2016 Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PRILS) determined that proficient readers also possess digital literacy skills.
